Policy

Our work is oriented entirely towards impact. BHHI focuses on identifying and advancing policy solutions to prevent further expansion of homelessness, end existing homelessness, and inform the creation of extremely low-income housing in San Francisco, the State of California, and across the country. By recommending evidence-based policies to key stakeholders and translating findings into implementable practices, BHHI approaches homelessness with a view to developing solutions commensurate with the scale of the problem.

In addition to generating pathbreaking original research, BHHI serves policymakers in the following ways:

  • Providing informal consultations on policy interventions aimed at reducing or mitigating homelessness.
  • Drafting policy memos that assess various options for reducing or mitigating homelessness.
  • Testifying before the state legislature, city council, or other state or local bodies.
  • Briefing elected officials, policy staff, advocates, and others.
  • Providing speakers for panels, community events, and other public events.
  • Connecting policymakers to other experts and stakeholders in the fields of homelessness and housing policy.
