Guaranteed Income

In collaboration with community partners in the Bay Area, UCSF BHHI is conducting research and evaluation projects about the impact of guaranteed income on homelessness.

Background

The Silicon Valley Guaranteed Income Project (SVGIP) is a collaboration with our community partners—Destination: Home, the ¡Sí Se Puede! Collective, the Santa Clara County Office of Supportive Housing, and Sacred Heart Community Service. With these partners, UCSF BHHI is conducting a study of guaranteed income to understand the potential effects of guaranteed income payments on housing stability, health, and well-being.

The purpose of the project is to better understand the experiences and needs of families experiencing unstable housing or homelessness. We will conduct surveys with 300 families about every 6 months for 3 years. Half of families will be selected to receive guaranteed income, or payments equivalent to $1,000 a month for 24 months (2 years).

The UCSF BHHI team is leading research and evaluation activities via a mixed methods randomized controlled trial co-designed in collaboration with our community partners. Recruitment and enrollment in the study started in December 2022.
