Overview

Hannah Decker, MD is a general surgery resident with a longstanding interest in improving access to high-quality surgical care for vulnerable populations. She earned her BA in History at Dartmouth College, where she studied imperialism and nationalism in the 20th century and began to appreciate how broad social, cultural, economic, and political forces impact people's lives. After college, she worked at a global macroeconomic hedge fund which enhanced her understanding of economic drivers. She attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine and ultimately came to UCSF to complete her general surgery training. During her training, she completed the National Clinicians Scholars Program, a two-year health services research fellowship focused on strategic science and health equity. Her focus during fellowship was understanding how we might provide high quality surgical care for unhoused patients, particularly those with cancer, with mentorship from multiple BHHI faculty members.
