Overdose prevention is about more than saving a life in a single moment—it can be the beginning of a path to housing, healthcare, and treatment.
BHHI faculty member Dr. Leslie Suen shares the story of a patient who first sought overdose prevention services and later connected to housing, started medication treatment for opioid use disorder, and reduced his fentanyl use in an op-ed published on MedPage.
"In a world that is increasingly divided, our solutions must be based in shared goals. We all want fewer people dying from overdoses, and OPCs are effective in that realm. But we also want less syringe litter on our streets. We all want fewer 911 calls and hospitalizations related to drug use. We want better use of public funds and cost savings in our healthcare systems. OPCs accomplish all these goals."
