California Statewide Survey on Homelessness

The UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative is pleased to announce a new study to better understand homelessness across the state of California. This webinar featured Margot Kushel, MD and researchers from UCSF, with a welcome from California Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Mark Ghaly, and provided an overview of the study’s purpose and methods to orient communities to this new study ahead of the launch later this year. Conducted in collaboration with the California Health and Human Services Agency, the study aims to improve our understanding of the immediate precipitants of homelessness and barriers to homelessness exits among people experiencing homelessness in California, with a focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study will examine the experiences and engagement in services of adults experiencing homelessness. With the goal of providing actionable evidence for policymakers and programmatic leadership, the study is funded by the California Health Care Foundation, the Blue Shield of California Foundation, and the Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative.
